Paul H. Reistrup
Mentor/Senior Advisor
Mr. Reistrup has been instrumental for providing the ASR team with “railroad reality checks” and advice during the development of our service and route innovations for Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (NEC). Mr. Reistrup utilized AmeriStarRail’s through-service operating plans for Boston, New York and Philadelphia to originate the idea of breaking out of the constraints and inefficiencies of Washington Union Station terminal operations by extending all Northeast Corridor train service to Alexandria, Virginia.
His long career in the rail industry includes serving as the second president of Amtrak from 1975 to 1978. During Mr. Reistrup’s tenure at Amtrak his leadership resulted in Amtrak taking ownership of the Northeast Corridor, the Northeast Corridor Improvement Program (NECIP), new electric locomotives and acquiring Amfleet and Superliner cars which still serve as the backbone of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor and long distance services.
