Proposed Libertyliner 250
Introducing the Libertyliner 250 high-speed trains: AmeriStarRail’s plan to replace 50 year old Amfleet cars to improve safety now on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor
AmeriStarRail offers Amtrak a private sector solution to replace the 50 year old Amfleet cars on the Northeast Corridor this year.
AmeriStarRail states that operation of the half-century old Amfleet cars “poses unknown safety issues because, at speeds up to 125 MPH, no rail passenger service in North American railroad history has operated passenger train cars so old, so fast.”
AmeriStarRail’s privately funded plan, to team with Amtrak, will be able to begin transforming Northeast Corridor service this year by using the Alstom Avelia Liberty high-speed trainsets, now operating as the NextGen Acela, to replace the aging Amfleet cars.
AmeriStarRail proposes naming the new high-speed trainsets the Libertyliner 250 to commemorate America’s 250th birthday and the first passenger train to exceed 250 kilometers per hour in the United States with a top speed of 160mph.
Every Amtrak Libertyliner 250 train will offer Triple-Class service of Coach, Business and First Class seating. Triple-Class service on the Libertyliners will give senior citizens, families, students, persons with disabilities and low-income coach passengers the freedom to travel on America’s high-speed trains for the first time with affordable Coach seating.
AmeriStarRail operation of Amtrak Libertyliner 250 high-speed service on the Northeast Corridor will include:
Hourly New York - Washington Nonstops in just one hour, 59 minutes
Hourly Boston - New York Washington Express Service
Hourly New York - Washington Limiteds
Service is doubled to every 30 minutes between New York and Washington
Amtrak Libertyliners will be faster, safer and more comfortable than driving.
AmeriStarRail requests the opportunity to present the Libertyliner 250 partnership proposal to the Amtrak Board July 31st.
In the letter to Amtrak President Roger Harris, AmeriStarRail Chief Operating Officer Scott Spencer said, “Given the importance of replacing the 50 year old Amfleet cars as soon as possible and providing all passengers with the highest levels of speed, safety and service on the Northeast Corridor, we at AmeriStarRail request the opportunity to present our Libertyliner 250 partnership proposal to the Amtrak Board at the next board meeting this Thursday, July 31st.
Discussion of the safety advantages of implementing our proposal to replace the Amfleet cars on the Northeast Corridor with the inauguration of the Libertyliner 250 trainsets is imperative for improving the safety of Amtrak passengers and should be given the highest priority.”
